ABOUT US
From its beginning in 1984 the Volleyball Festival has offered workshops for parents to assist them better manage the challenges of sports parenting. In 1998 it was decided that the workshops and publications produced for the Festival should be made available to school and youth sports communities throughout the nation. A non-profit organization Parents for Good Sports was formed to expand the reach of its founders David Canning Epperson, Ph.D. and George A. Selleck, Ph.D. Parents for Good Sports was developed to help enrich the lives of young athletes and their families through parent-driven, community-based educational programs. PGS programs and curriculum materials are designed to give parents the critical tools needed to re-shape youth sports policies and practices throughout the country. Hands-on training programs provide a preventive, proactive model that assists parents in tapping the positive potential in youth sports while mobilizing and training parent leaders to improve their sports parenting skills and assume constructive roles in their youth sports organizations.
Since 2002 Parents for Good Sports has partnered with the National Federation of High School Associations to offer the "Team Enhancement Program" to schools from New York to Hawaii. This program unites parents, athletes and coaches in efforts to build mutually supportive team communities.
In 2005 PGS forged an alliance with the Center for Sports Parenting so that it could offer its programs to a still wider range of school and youth sports organizations.
